Eastern Regional Peace Council
The Eastern Regional Peace Council (ERPC) is located in the capital of the region, Koforidua. It can be found on the first floor of the Audit Block at the Regional Coordinating Council. ERPC has thirteen (13) eminent board members who are representatives of various religious institutions and identifiable groups in the region.
Since its inauguration, the Council has used various means to carry out its core mandate of facilitating and developing mechanisms for conflict prevention, management, and resolutions as well as building sustainable peace in the region. ERPC functions to harmonise and coordinate, strengthen capacities, increase awareness of the use of non-violent strategies, facilitate amicable resolutions and promote understanding of the values of diversity, trust and tolerance.
To achieve these, ERPC has and continues to train and build the capacity of various stakeholders. Notable among them is the training of traditional leaders, women, youth, the media, and other peace actors. Training often focuses on mediation, negotiations, media professionalism, and other related peace and development topics.
The Council continuously engages the public through various media platforms to educate the public on peacebuilding interventions for peaceful co-existence. Among the topics often treated are understanding conflict and peace, tolerance and peaceful co-existence, as well as other conflict prevention and management techniques. The medium is also used to explain in detail the works of the National Peace Council.
Eminent board members of ERPC often engage congregants or members of various faith based organizations. Christian organizations, Muslim groups, and African traditional practitioners and believers are frequently engaged and encouraged to be ambassadors of peace. The leadership of various religious faith-based groups is often engaged, and their capacities are built to strengthen the peace of the region. The youth in the region are constantly engaged by the ERPC team.
